So I have a set of clippers that I use to cut my hair. Its so hot outside and I wanna shave my dog but I just didnt know if I could use the clippers. Are they strong enough to cut her thick hair?

Yes, you can use regular hair clippers. We used them for grooming at the veterinary clinic I worked in. For a poodle type clip, I would recommend a #7 or a #10 blade, depending on how short you want the coat. I do want to advise you, dogs don't need to be clipped for heat. They are sometimes better off leaving the fur to insulate against the heat. Another reason to not clip, or to not shave real close, is that dogs can suffer from sun burn just like us. Many breeds with shaggy bangs - like Old English Sheepdogs - should not have their bangs clipped, because they have sensitive eyes. Best to check w/ your vet or groomer, first, as to how your breed is best groomed.

You should be able to shave her, you need to make sure you do NOT take her coat all the way down because then you have a chance of her sunburning. Take your time and shave carefully so you do not cut her either.

depending on the type of dog you have and how much hair you have to clip, your regular clipper won't work (it will heat up too quickly). Clippers for dogs are also wider, come with different size blades. Also, as you shave the dog, you need to cool the blade with a lubricating oil spray.
You can always try using your clippers but make sure you don't burn your dog!

probably..just check clippers often..they get hot and may burn the dog..spray blades often with alchol to cool them down..touch your cheek to blade..if its too hot on your cheek, its too hot on your dogs skin

yes....but it is harder than you think you can make one hell of a mess of the dogs coat take her to a groomer it won't cost alot to have it done correctly ...the legs are the worse part to do...i have had dogs for 20 years long coated ones that the oldies get clipped but i cant do i tried and really made a mess of it so mine go to a groomer it costs me 鎷?0 every 6 months so very cheap and at least the dog looks and feels better....

It should work, my mom tried on my dog! Takes a while though cause its hard to shave off the hair, make sure its not so close to the skin, and clippers heat up really fast so then you should take a break to leat the clipper cool down every now and then. Good luck!! if it doesnt work you can go out and buy some doggy clippers instead (:
edit : oh and its kind of hard if your dogs scared of it! A tip i looked up was if your dogs scared of the noise and the feeling is that to take a automatic toothbrush (if you have one) and put it on ur dog to let it get use to the sound and the feeling (i think). Our doggies small and we put it on top of a table to shave her, so she doesnt run away %26amp; its high so she cant jump off, you wouldnt want your dog running away while ur trying to cut his/her hair! regular clippers are not strong enough for her hair type. And people clippers are designed differently than dog clippers for different hair types. I would nnot even use a cheap pair of dog clippers to cut my dog's hair. to reduce incident shave with the growth of the hair, if you shave it backward then you will skin him bald and you have a greater chance of knicking him.
