Can you bring nail clippers on a plane?

Just regular, small, metal nail clippers....

Also what about metal hair clips and bobby pins?

Can you bring nail clippers on a plane?

Yes, all are allowed. There was a time when some security agents would let you go through with the nail clipper if you agree to let them break off the nail file (the pointy thing that's often attached to the clipper) and throw it away. They have since relaxed the rule and let them through.

Per the following websites, the answer would appear to be, loosely, only if you don't mind giving them up to the off objector (particularly apparently if traveling internationally).

According to Tropic Temper (http://glendalarke.blogspot.com/2007/09/... there's a history for problems with nail clippers in Singapore. According to http://archive.salon.com/tech/letters/20... you might've, in 2001 (and if you were a senior perhaps?...), been relieved of your clippers in the US. As of 9/26/2006 however, according to the Transportation Security Administration (http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/p... nail clippers are allowed at least on domestic flights--a cursory search did not reveal how standardized or not this list is internationally.

In the final analysis, I would personally check them just to avoid the possible appearance of non-compliance if I was flying internationally and probably would domestically too, although, according the US Government, they appear to be permitted.

Happy Traveling,

Suggest you put the items listed in your CHECKED IN baggage.

Do NOT put them in your hand carry baggage.

After 9/11, all nail clippers, scissors, knives, and tools were totally banned. In the past year (as of 9/26/2006) the restrictions were reduced. They now SPECIFICALLY ALLOW nail clippers and any scissors with blades shorter than 4 inches.

See the TSA official list for more details.
