Question about clippers?

I am a dog groomer, and i also have a friend who is a dog groomer, and she runs the clippers backwards on the hair, and I run the clippers forward, what is the difference?

Question about clippers?

Any professional groomer knows the clippers go with the grain, unless you are going the opposite way to get a shorter result in the coat.

Question about clippers?

clippers only work in one direction... she is just holding her hand differently

Question about clippers?

Running the clippers against the grain trims the hair a LOT closer than it should.

If you need a closer cut you should use a closer blade, ie. a 7 instead of a 5 etc...

You want to run the clippers WITH the lay of the hair, if it doesn't come out smooth, brush against the lay, then clipper again.

Question about clippers?

After running the clippers forward, if you run the clippers backwards, it cuts the hair even shorter. I always clip my poodles under the neck first going with the hair, then against the hair to get a shorter, more even cut.

Question about clippers?

You really want to run the clippers with the grain not against it. The only reason to go against the grain is to get a shorter cut but it works much better to just use a closer blade.
