My son went to get his hair cut and the lady used clippers and cut the back of his neck. Can heCatch

He is only 3 and it bled- a minor cut. I have been worried. Now a week later he has a fever. Could the fever be related to the cut? Could he have gotten something more serious?

Most reputable hair stylist are taught to keep their clippers and scissor clean and to use disinfectant on them after each use. Its why you never see them use a comb if its fallen on the floor (if they do pick one up to use then they aren't showing sign of good training and you should leave).

SO if they are practicing good habits and the cut was doctored... I wouldn't worry much its probably just random chance that he got sick.

If the area is inflamed then its infected and you should see a doctor...

If his fever goes beyond 104 see a doctor...

If he becomes jaundiced see a doctor (possible to get hep from a cut from a instrument that had also cut someone that was infected, this would have been my only worry and would really depend on whether they were disinfecting their cutters after each person)...

Did the hair stylist wash his cut and bandage it? There is always the chance that he could have an infection, or he could just be getting a cold. When they are still young like this and you don't really have a feel for everything it would be best to consult a physician. Especially if his fever persists.

I don't want to suggest anything rash and jeopardize the health of your child, and I hope that everything is okay.

if you have kept it clean and put meds on it it should be fine . If it is all red and infected it could be from the cut best bet if you are really concerned about it take the little guy to the doctor and have him checked out its probably just a cold or the flu i wish you luck

Any break in the skin provides an opportunity for bacteria to enter and cause infection. I don't know if his fever is related to the cut. Is it inflamed? Does it feel warm to the touch? Is it painful? Is it swollen? Is it draining pus? If not, then his fever may not be related. What did you do to treat the cut? Is it healing? What is his temperature? You can see that there is much information you haven't provided.

I don't know what your idea of a fever is but if his temperature is 103.0 or higher and persists or recurs, his pediatrician should be notified. Monitor for other symptoms as well and report these, too.

yes. he can catch staph, hep b, hep c or any other disease carried by bodily fluids.

hcv (hepatitis c) is a virus only transferrable by blood to blood cross contamination. even a dried teeny amount of hcv infected blood, if re-entering the bloodstream can reconstitute.

it's best to get him checked out-especially if he is running a fever a week later. (hcv may or may not show up right away but he can have symptoms) also, alt and ast levels (liver enzymes the doctor looks at from a liver panel test) will not always show an increase yet a person can still have hcv, so make sure they test for antibodies.*very important!

good luck
