Hair clippers? How do the depth guides work?

Hi! I was wondering how those removable plastic "depth" guides work on hair clippers. They don't make any sense to me. If you put one of those on, and ranor over your scapt, I don't see how it would stop the hair from being cut right next to the scalp the hair can still enter and the clippers ARE right next to the scalpt. I just don't get how they work. I see the teeth they have, but it appears as though this would merely comb the hair, not protect the hair form being cut too short. I just don't get it . thanks

The gaurds are marked for different lengths... ranging from 1/4 inch up to I think 1 inch.... These are true honest incraments... not a fictional 1/4 inch that most people think of as 3/4 of an inch... %26lt;believe me I have had people in the chair asking for a trim saying an inch.. you take off a factual inch they freak.. then show you what they thought was an inch to be 1/4 of an inch%26gt;.....

When the gaurd is held properly at the scalp it will cut the exact incrament it is marked to cut to.... If your honestly thinking about using clippers with a gaurd to do a hair cut.. start out EXTRA long.. you can always go shorter if you wish...

They hold the cutting blade bits further away from the scalp, so the hair is cut a bit longer.

ok, they taper and the razor ends up being a little away from ur scalp, im assuming ur doing a short cut? i use these when i cut my moms hair to take off the bulk in the back, they work very good, but i always go over with scissors to even things out. great time saver tho! but yes they do work, if u plan on cutting u can check out the largest one, see what it does, then keep going down till u find the right size, they dont give the most perfect cut since it just somewhat combs the hair and then it falls and gets buzzed somewhere along the hair, not all of it will be completely even, at least not that i have ever experienced. to layer between differend guides i usually start and the bottom and go up and lift out so it tapers into the next guide and then switch to a larger one.

I have hair clippers with two removable "combs" One for long hair and one for short hair. When you adjust the depth on the clipper the comb moves in or out. You can cut to the scalp or within a few inches. Buy one and try it, it really does work.

Ok, well first of all each clipper guard is a different length....making the hair have a different length when it gets cut.

If you use the 1/8th guard, the hair will be close to bald.....

The best way to describe this is to think of it as a measuring cup....??? K???

If you have a 1/4 cup of peanut-butter you dont have much ... correct?

If you have a 1/2 cup of peanut-butter you have more than a 1/4 right?? etc... well those clipper guards work on that same principle.....

and when you get done.....the hair will be that length you choose.... so start with the bigger one....and you can always go shorter.....but the hair is real hard to glue back on... :)

If you start out with a 1/2 inch guard or a # 4 that will leave the hair 1/2 " long!!! Thats about 1/2 way between the tip of your index finger and the first knuckle.....and a 1/4 " inch is a #2 guard, which would be less .... right?? and so on..... !!!

Think of it as a math problem..... most guys understand math.

:) :)
