My clippers work sometimes depending on the hair I'm cutting on my Newfie. What can I do to hel

I'm using an Oster A-2 with a 5 blade. My dog is a Newfie that has a couple of mats on his hind quarters.

Clean your blade. You may need to switch to a #7F blade to get UNDER the matts. A #5 blade will not go through matts well at all. You may need to carefully split the matts with scissors to make them easier to get out. Why not just brush the matts out with some de-matting spray?

If you force the blade through the coat the blade can jam. You need to keep the blade clean and I use cooling spray and I also use oil after I take my blades apart to clean them really well. Wipe the blade after using the spray or the oil...you don't want them on the coat of the dog.

Also check your clippers for excess hair in the vents, keep them clean. I take my clippers apart and blow the hair out with a cool blow dryer. The dryer can also be used to check exactly how the matt is attached and to push the matt farther from the skin.

Make sure that your clippers are well oiled. Add a few drops of clipper oil and run the clipper for a few seconds, then wipe off any excess oil. This helps the blades run smoothly and cut evenly.

Good luck!

I use a cooling spray on the clippers every couple of minutes and they cut easily. Also, the blades might be dull.

You really need to keep your blades sharp. I get mine sharpened several times a year for my Newfie. Dull blades suck.
