Any sharp object will become dull with use.

Clipping dirty or matted hair will dull them faster.

Blades should be sharpened occasionally by someone experienced with dog clipper blades.

EDIT: Reuben G is a moron. Of course you can have clipper blades sharpened.

Its relative to how much you use them, and the texture of the dog's fur or hair. Try sharpening them a little with a regular knife sharpener that you would use in the kitchen.

It's like knifes they get dull over time...that's why you have to sharpen them every so often and buy new ones... You don't think they last forever do you?

for the very same reason razors become dull with use. The oil is to lubricate and reduce friction, not sharpen the blade.

for the same reason razors become dull when you shave.

It's like using scissors, everything dulls over time and use. Depends on the type of fur you are cutting. Some fur is thinker then others thus dulling your blades quicker then when cutting thin hair.

Have the blades sharpened

Unfortunately, it's just like a pair of scissors- the more use they get with coarse hair, the faster they dull. They have services that can sharpen your blades, but we always just end up buying new ones, as when they wear out, they also end up breaking.

Make sure you are using a high quality clipper/blades- the cheaper ones will wear out quicker as well.

Also, you can get a spray can of blade cooler/cleaner- we use that as well. We keep 2 blades and switch them out, and spray the blades with the cleaner/cooler- it helps more than the oil does. It's like "Clipper cooler" or something.

They are to be used and thrown away..You can't get them sharpened,we have to but new ones..
