#2 at the lowest. #1 is army style hun. Try #3 to start.

when i cut my hair i almost always use the number 2 gaurd.it works real good for me .it leaves your hair around 200 thousandths (0.200) of an inch or approximatly the distance between these 2 lines | |.but a number 1 gaurd will leave it much shorter leaving you with almost none were you could barely if even grasp it with your finger nails.hope my ramblings help you in some way.i didnt notice but the lines i had used for example got closer after submitting my answer so it would be twice the distance between them.
